Clive Wilson Switchboards (CWS) is a proud Southland family business now moving into its third generation of ownership. We have been manufacturing industrial switchboards in Invercargill for 58 years, with 25+ people across our electrical switchboard, powder coating, and engraving divisions.

Qualified Electrician: Graduate Opportunity

Just Finished Your Training? Start Your Career With Us

We are looking for a motivated electrician to join us, and we are happy to consider recent graduates who are keen to build a career in a specialised and rewarding trade. You will work alongside electricians who have been in this trade for decades.


  • Layout and wiring: industrial motor control centres, main switchboards, lighting and power distribution boards
  • Testing: to AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 61439 standards
  • Construction: switchboard panels and framing
  • Schematics: interpreting electrical drawings and schedules
  • Site work: occasional site work across NZ

Essential: NZ registered Electrician (EWRB), permanent NZ work rights, current NZ Driver Licence, reliable team player.

Nice to have: switchboard or panel manufacturing experience, comfortable reading electrical schematics.

Electrical Apprentice

Ready for a Change? We Are Looking For Our Next Electrical Apprentice

Start a hands-on, well-supported electrical apprenticeship at one of NZ’s longest-running switchboard manufacturers. Learn in a tidy workshop, alongside qualified electricians and switchboard builders with decades of experience. Industry training fees and study time supported.


  • Workshop-based apprenticeship: industrial switchboards, MCCs, distribution boards built in Invercargill
  • Mentored training: paired with experienced tradespeople from day one
  • Block course support: paid time for training, study leave for assessments
  • Variety of work: panel construction, wiring, testing, site work as you progress
  • Stable family-owned business: 58-year track record, third-generation Southland

Essential: permanent NZ work rights, NZ Driver Licence, reliable, keen to learn, good team attitude. Some prior workshop or trade experience is an advantage but not essential.

Storeperson

Run Our Stores Department

Take ownership of our Stores Department: receiving, inventory, and despatch for the workshop. Prior experience as a storeperson is essential, along with strong organisation and attention to detail. Full training on our systems provided. Immediate start available for the right candidate.


  • Receiving and inspection: incoming shipments of goods, materials, and supplies
  • Inventory management: accurate records of stock levels, prompt reporting of discrepancies
  • Despatch: preparing and labelling outgoing shipments
  • Stores organisation: clean, safe, well-managed working environment
  • Material handling: forklift and pallet jack, used safely and efficiently
  • Coordination: communicating with workshop, purchasing, and despatch teams

Essential: prior storeperson experience, NZ unrestricted work rights, full NZ Driver Licence, forklift licence, good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), physically fit. CV and covering letter required.

Switchboard Draftsperson

Join our drafting team producing GA layouts, single-line diagrams, PLC and IO control drawings, motor schedules and distribution sheets. Suits an experienced draftsperson, a sparkie wanting a desk-based change, or an electrical designer / engineer stepping into drafting.

  • EPLAN and AutoCAD experience ideal but not essential — full training on our software and processes
  • Strong attention to detail and computer skills
  • Familiarity with AS/NZS electrical standards viewed favourably
  • Collaborative work with project management and contract handlers
  • Drawing revision control and accuracy across all project files
  • Unrestricted NZ work visa required
  • Mon–Fri, 40 hrs/week (8:00am–4:30pm, 30-min lunch). On-site only.
