Three things get you a firm quote: a loading schedule, a single-line diagram, and the confirmed fault level (PSCC) at the supply point. IP rating, form of separation and any space constraints help too. Missing information is the single biggest cause of quoting delays.
Full checklist: what information is required to quote a switchboard.
Same-day or next-day for a complete enquiry pack on a standard switchboard. Multi-section MSBs and large MCCs can take a day or two longer for engineering review, and during busy periods quotes can take a little longer again. An incomplete pack adds time, so send the checklist items above with your first enquiry.
A budget quote is an indicative price built from a partial information pack, with the assumptions called out. A firm quote is the price we build to, based on a complete pack and locked-in scope.
Yes. Our in-house switchboard design and drafting team produces single-line diagrams, GA drawings and loading schedules from a brief, using EPLAN Electric P8 and EPLAN Pro Panel. We also run PowerCAD network analysis and AS/NZS 61439 compliance reviews.
Main switchboards up to 8,000 A, motor control centres, mechanical services switchboards (MSSB), lighting and power distribution boards, EV charging kiosks and PLC/SCADA automation panels. All designed and verified to AS/NZS 61439.
Three type-tested platforms: Logstrup for the largest modular boards (up to 8,500 A, Form 4A as standard), Simotrol, our in-house platform for MSBs and MCCs, and Schneider Prisma Plus G up to 630 A, as an accredited builder. Platform selection depends on the project.
Yes, custom is the core business. Every board is built in our Invercargill workshop to the project’s loading schedule, fault level and site conditions. More at custom switchboard manufacturer NZ.
Yes. Boards are designed and verified to AS/NZS 61439 on type-tested platforms, and our quality management system has been ISO 9001-certified and audited annually since 1995.
It depends on the prospective short-circuit current (PSCC) at your supply point, confirmed by your network operator or consulting engineer. Our fault rating guide explains Icw, Ipk and PSCC with typical NZ levels, and the free transformer fault current calculator gives you a starting figure from the transformer nameplate.
Match the environment: lower ratings suit clean indoor switchrooms, IP66 is the common spec for dairy and food washdown areas. The IP rating guide and the interactive IP rating selector narrow it down quickly.
Form 1 through Form 4b under AS/NZS 61439, including Form 4a demountable MCC construction. Which form your project needs comes down to downtime tolerance and maintenance access. See form of segregation explained.
Distribution boards typically run three to four weeks with complete information. Mid-size MSBs and MCCs run four to six weeks, large multi-section boards longer. Delays usually start before manufacturing, in the information-gathering stage. See what actually drives switchboard lead time.
We build in Invercargill and deliver across New Zealand via Mainfreight, with recent projects from Northland to Southland. We have also shipped internationally to Australia, the Pacific Islands and Chile.
Yes. We assist with on-site modifications and recommend trusted installation partners so your switchboard integrates cleanly into the site’s electrical system.
Yes. Switchboard maintenance across NZ covers Megger insulation resistance testing, torque checks, thermographic inspection and test certification.
Often, yes. We have completed Schneider Masterpact ACB retrofits from 800 A to 3200 A inside planned shutdown windows. The upgrade or replacement guide covers how to make the call and what information prices the job.
Yes. We build the supply switchboards and outdoor kiosk enclosures behind the chargers, including for multiple public Tesla Supercharger sites in New Zealand. The chargers themselves come from the network operator. See EV charging kiosks.
Both, in-house in Invercargill: industrial powder coating with chemical pre-treatment and the full RAL colour range, and engraving for switchboard labels, plant tags and traffolyte.
Send your loading schedule, single-line diagram and confirmed fault level via the contact page or call +64 3 214 4264. We will scope the board, propose a platform and quote in writing.
