What started in a Princess Street garage in Invercargill in 1971 is now one of New Zealand’s most trusted heavy industrial switchboard manufacturers. Still family-owned, still Southland-built, 25 specialist staff in our 450 m² heated Invercargill workshop, including team members with 30-year careers on the floor.

We design, manufacture, test, and finish low voltage switchboards, motor control centres, automation systems, powder coating, and laser engraving for New Zealand’s toughest industrial environments. Forty-five years in switchboard manufacture. Co-purchased the business with Wayne Affleck in 1988 after the sudden passing of company founder Clive Wilson. Sole Managing Director since 2009. Estimator and contract handler on every major project.

Chris Wilson

Director

Appointed Director in 2025 alongside sister Kylie, continuing the Wilson family legacy into a third generation. Estimator and contract handler. Works directly with specifiers, project engineers, and contractors on every major project.

Kylie Thompson

Appointed Director in 2025. Financial Controller, Quality Manager (ISO 9001:2015), and Health & Safety Coordinator. Owns the QMS certification and the company's H&S programme.

Through the Years

From a Princess Street garage in 1968 to one of New Zealand's most trusted heavy industrial switchboard manufacturers. Three generations of the Wilson family.

Founding Era

1968 – 1989

Company founded

Clive Wilson initiates the business in a Princess Street garage, Invercargill.

1971

First purpose-built premises

The year we still mark as our founding for switchboard manufacture.

1983

Sudden passing of Clive Wilson

The company's founder passed unexpectedly, leaving a legacy his family would carry forward.

1988

Wilson family takes ownership

Alan Wilson, Clive's son, and Wayne Affleck purchased the business.

1989

Move to Clyde Street

Larger Clyde Street premises purchased, where we still operate today. Clive Wilson Electrical Wholesale added to the group.

Major workshop expansion

Powder coating plant relocated and the switchboard workshop expanded to accommodate growing demand.

2025

Third generation appointed

Alan's son Chris and daughter Kylie formally appointed as Directors, marking a new chapter and continuing the Wilson family legacy.
